PLEXIGLAS® Satinice Frosted Finish Acrylic Standout On New Footy Show Desk Set Design

Channel 9’s The AFL Footy Show was opened with a set revamp this week, and PLEXIGLAS® Satinice Snow frosted finish acrylic was a key feature of the desk that forms the centrepiece of the set design.

The matte or “Satin Ice” finish acrylic features a matte surface, giving it the definitive satin look, making it perfect for soft light diffusion and aesthetic appeal. The new set of The Footy Show was a perfect display of what PLEXIGLAS® Satinice Snow (white) can do for a space when used in conjunction with good lighting methods.

PLEXIGLAS® GS Clear 20mm & PLEXIGLAS® Satinice Featured

The PLEXIGLAS® Satinice Snow (white) panels were the material used for the back-lit strip that ran from the floor on one side of the desk, over the top and down the opposite side, enveloping the desk in a strip of light and creating a beautiful aesthetic finish. As the most premium brand of acrylic in the global market, the set designer also used PLEXIGLAS® for the top of the desk (see below image). 3 panels of PLEXIGLAS® GS Clear 20mm thick acrylic were used as the finishing top surface of the desk, giving the crystal clear and glossy transparent look. PLEXIGLAS® GS Clear is absolutely colourless and clear, as well as having good abrasion resistance and wear properties, making it the perfect desktop surface for T.V studios.

The well known set designers, AmSet Constructions, used PLEXIGLAS® as a preference given the premium quality and depth of range available. The job required a premium grade of acrylic that would look great and stand the test of time. The set took 2 weeks to build while the show was on a 2 week hiatus, with strict lead times set by producers given programming requirements. The Docklands studio was no doubt a pleasant surprise to the crowd when the stunning new set was revealed.
